Westerns Repertory Series at Film Streams
Ruth Sokolof Theater | 1340 Webster Street | Through August 27th
There’s no movie genre more patently “American” than the Western, and perhaps none more generally misunderstood. Squeaky-clean heroes versus categorical evil-doers? Not so much. True Westerns -- the visually breathtaking work of genre auteurs like Howard Hawks, John Ford, Sam Peckinpah, and Sergio Leone -- are more like Greek mythology set to an open range, where the difference between “good” and “bad” is often slim and sometimes none. For more information, please visit http://www.filmstreams.org.

Also! Please try to catch a screening of Food Inc. -- which opens on Friday, July 31st (Stop by The Empty Room for a CLEAN PLATE preview after the film on Friday!). Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) along with social entrepreneurs such as Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms' Joel Salatin, FOOD, INC. reveals surprising and often shocking truths about what we eat and how it's produced.

On
August 4th at 7pm there will be special screening of FOOD, INC., with a post-show panel discussion featuring William Powers, Executive Director of the Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society (NSAS) and representative of Slow Food Nebraska, Elle Lien, creator of Clean Plate, and Dr. Darrell R. Mark, Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics and Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
